Cullman Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

Our Take on Cullman, Alabama

Adventure seekers may not find anything exciting enough in Cullman, Alabama. But for the history buffs and for those who are thrilled with knowing the what, why and how of the events of the previous decades or centuries, then Cullman vacations can satisfy their curiosity.

It might help to know that Cullman was specifically established to become a colony of German refugees. This was in 1873 and since then, the influences of European culture permeated the community. One of the things to do in Cullman is to visit “The Scenic Shrine of the South,” which is the Ave Maria Grotto located on the grounds of the St. Bernard Abbey. With more than 3-acres, it is not an ordinary Grotto. In fact, it showcases more than 125 miniature reproductions of the world’s most famous shrines, buildings, and churches. Cullman vacations can be a worldwide tour.

Another great activity is to cross the Clarkson Covered Bridge, one of the longest covered bridges in Alabama. And while crossing this bridge, one might imagine how the 1863 Civil War Battle of Hog Mountain played out in the same location. And finally, the historical Cullman vacation will be completed only by visiting the Cullman County Museum, which has an Archaeological Room where the artifacts of Native Americans are displayed. The most eye-catching exhibit is the 7-foot sculpture of an Indian warrior. For the fashion lover, the Clothing Store in the museum displays the evolution of women clothing.
