Athens, which is known as the city of “Southern Splendor,” started as an agricultural community and progressed into an industrialized area. Yet, despite the zenith of modernity, Athens maintains its historical traditions by holding various festivals and community activities. Thus, the main attractions of Athens vacations are these festivals.

There is the Dogwood Festival that exhibits the beautiful flora of Athens. There is the Limestone Sheriff Rodeo that honors the community’s “Wild Wild West” days. For the music lover, there is the SoulStock that is actually a Christian version of the rock music concert of Woodstock. And there is the Storytelling Festival in which a circus tent is put up in Athens and animated storytellers come to perform.

With numerous community activities, there are enough Athens Alabama hotels that will accommodate travelers. Athens may not appeal to people who like extreme adventures. However, Athens holds the most appealing historical theme, which is known as the “Step Back in Time” Walking Tour. In such a tour, travelers can get inside historical homes and imagine themselves to be transported back in time. The Athens vacations become time travel excursions. For those who have artistic inclinations, the activity to join is the “Art on the Square,” which is held in downtown Athens.
